Firmware update hides Sony viao CD/DVD in device manager and my computer

I did an update, off the Sony Viao support site that downloaded and installed a firmware update for my Blueray DVD/CD player. Now I can't open the drive and it does not show up (neither does the CD/DVD catagory) in Device Mgr or My computer. Is there a fix i can do. Sony support on line told me to do a full restore, which I did, to no avial.

See if you can locate the previous version of firmware and re-flash the ROM...that might fix it...if not, you've got a pretty spiffy paper weight...

Depending on your version of Windows, there's also a Windows cache bug that causes this same problem.

Search the Windows Support site for missing CD / DVD drives. There's a registry fix that temporarily fixes the issue (until it someday occurs again).
