New Build Specs:

Mobo : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131400

CPU : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215

First build since the e8400s dropped a few years back.

Trying to find some quality RAM for this build. Preferrably a 4GB Dual Channel Kit of DDR3 1600.

Had my eyes on:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148329 Crucial

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145265 Corsair XMS

With that in mind any recommendations? I'd also like to know, how important is it to go with ASUS's QVL when deciding on RAM?

That's some expensive RAM. G.Skill has a number of CL7 choices for less than both of those. Here's a list from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+50008476+1052129233+1052315794+1052528354&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=147&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=

Also you may want to review this thread where we've recently had a discussion on RAM with the i5 750. The posts start off talking about PSUs but skip down to the posts starting on 4/11/10 for the RAM discussion: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/279809-28-500watts-enough#t2092137

Those are both good sets of RAM, and either will treat you quite well. You might look into some CL7 versions though and see how those compare in price to the CL8s you were looking at. As far as the Asus QVL, I doubt its really much of a deal, as long as you get RAM that is specced for 1.65V or less (and don't push it above that) and get it from a good brand (Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin, Kingston, Patriot, G.Skill, Etc.). I know G.Skill has some nice CL7 RAM sets for reasonable prices- might be worth a look. Personally, I love my Patriot ViperII Sector IV's, but you'll want to make sure its the CL8 version, not the CL9.
