Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

A PATA cable have two ports to connect two devices, this can be 2 HD or 2 CD or DVD drives. BUT remember that for connect two devices of this type, you need configure it as master/slave.

^That is a very good mobo.

What is your budget for the new mobo?

Up to $150,
Only run 1-GeForce 9500GT ( to play FPS games)
Don't OC, just run them out-of-the box.

This is my second (ASUS P5N-E), first one lost its ability to use external USB ports.
Second one got fried by a leaking cooling system (took a 8800GTX with it).
Have the original one back in, a couple of week ago lost RAID plugs. :pt1cable:

I would go for the P5Q SE Plus, on your 1st option. IMO, is better that the 2nd one.

After reading the reviews for ASUS MBs at newegg, I think I will stay away from ASUS.
Almost everyone who needed to RMA a bad board had difficulty getting help. One guy whose' board died '11 months' after installation was told his problem was bent pins on the CPU??????
What is IMO?
Any other boards I might consider?

Gigabyte, MSI and EVGA are another very good manufacturers. But the other one that have your PATA and budget requirements is this ASUS P5Q Pro

The GA-EP45T-USB3P LGA is a very good mobo, but be careful because that mobo only support DDR3, and your old mobo use DDR2, so, if you want buy that mobo for your processor, U also need change the RAM.
