Phenom 2 processors work in a Phenom MOtherboard?

Hi, Im new here and Im on a tight budget trying to make a new rig for my son and I was wondering if a Phenom 2 processor would work on a regular phenom motherboard becasue there are limited amount of phenom 2 motherboards that are in my budget.
This is what im looking at

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Yeah, the Phenom II processors can works in Phenom mobos, but in some cases needs update the BIOS of the mobo. Bear in mind that not all the Phenom II can works in Phenom mobos.

That specific processor that you post the link is supported by the mobo that you want, and according to the ASUS's web site you don't need update the BIOS.

You can see the CPU support list of your mobo here.

And this are the specifications of your processor, that in newegg is HDX945FBGIBOX, but is you see is the same HDX945FBK4DGI, that is the 1st X4 945 in the list.

They also have this Combo ( LINKIE ) with the 955 cpu instead of the 945 and a Asus ASUS M4A785-M MOBO for $219 and you do not have to deal with a rebate !! -- I prefer the ATI chipset to the Nvidia one and the 955 is a bit better than the 945 for approximately the same price !
