Printer connectivity issue with hp c6280 model

Hello,
Every time I disconnect my laptop after shutting it down from my printer using a USB cable the printer won't work on restart. It wants to re-install the software from HP before the printer will run.
I make sure that both are off prior to start up and then connect the USB cable prior to starting both units
