Edit: wow I fail!

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within A Month BUDGET RANGE: $800-$1500

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Code Compiling, Gaming

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Mouse, Keyboard

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg

PARTS PREFERENCES: Radeon 5850

OVERCLOCKING: No SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Don't know yet

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Quiet is good, speed is good too.

I do a lot of C#/Actionscript3/C++ dev and I want a beast. The only thing I know I have to get and want is a Radeon 5850 for DX11.

I'm really out of the loop as far as everything except video cards so...

What can I build for between 800-1500 that would be great for gaming and dev? Are SSD's worth it?

So the budget includes a monitor and OS? If so, here's a nice setup

Should come out to around $1350. There's room to go up and down in price - if you aren't going to crossfire the mobo and psu could be switched out, and you can always add a SSD or upgrade.

I would hold off on the SSD, but since your still way under budget it's definitely an option

Hold off on SSD because of the cost? lol what's with 5850's being out of stock everywhere Oo.

Any others have opinions on this setup?

Thanks so much for all your help jbakerlent!

After having my last couple of monitors being able to use portrait mode I'll never go back to landscape only monitors.

The USB ports are oh-so-handy as well - especially if you're quieting the system by moving the tower a bit further away.
