Can you overclock an i7 2700k retail

Hello,

is it possible to overclock a "Retail" intel i7 2700k cpu, or do i have to buy an "unlocked" i7 2700k cpu?

P.S. I intend to run it on a ASUS P8P67 Deluxe Gen3 running 16Gb of Dual Channel1600Mhz PC3 12800C9 corsair vengeance RAM

As long as it is a K series CPU you can overclock it.

What do you mean by retail? It comes with retail box with the manual and stock cooler. For as long as it has the "K" it means unlocked and unleashed. Happy overclocking!

If you do plan to overclock, I strongly suggest a COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO RR-212E-20PK-R2 aftermarket heat sink/fan. The stock cooler is crap.

You can overclock it but you have to buy an aftermarket CPU cooler(liquid or air)
