I currently have a single gtx 570. Never tried SLi set ups and people have recommended the gtx 460's as they are not too expensive and performance wise are pretty amazing from what i read.

Question is....Are the fermi gtx 460's getting a bit outdated? are they worth it?

Not sure why you would favor going backwards for SLI...keep the 570- it's a very good card. 400 series card always were a little warmer than the 500 series. Is there any reason why you feel the need to go SLI? Your current card should be able to handle anything currently out there.

I own a gtx460 and two gtx 280, it isn't worth getting a second one over getting a second 570 instead. The gtx 460 at stock or near it isn't grease lightning even in sli which only are on par with a single 480/570. I suggest a second 570 when they become affordable for a time.

SLI GTX460 almost have the same horse power than GTX480..

GTX570 a little bit faster by hair with GTX480

so that's mean GTX570 and SLI GTX460 play in the same league..

there's no point to downgrade your card in to sli mode..more power hungry, more heat, and more problem..
