I have an Asrock AliveNF6P-VSTA for a motherboard and wanted to know if an Athlon II 245 would work on it considering it's not exactly an up-to-date mobo.

I've been reading on this and people claim that AM3 CPU's will work on AM2/AM2+ Mobo's but with a slower HT speed. rolli59's link contradicts that though. I have a feeling Asrock never bothered updating that list since that mobo came out 2 years ago.

You are right it will support the CPU but it will run at a lower HT speed since the board only supports 1000 MhZ Hypertransport so you will take a performance hit.

When that is the case I recommend upgrading the motherboard as well! There is plenty of cheap boards that support AM2/AM2+/AM3 cpu's and DDR2 ram.

some how dont think that cpu will work on there.

Seeing the cpu list, even the year old phenom II's are not on there. The phenom I's are.

If there were some phenom II's on there, i would be saying that there a good chance the Athlon II's would work. Although thats not the case.

Newegg is not an option where I live unfortunately. Most of the parts I get are almost double of what they cost in the states. How much of a performance hit would that be exactly? I have a Athlon LE-1640 2.6GHZ currently and while it's fine for most things, it's my biggest bottleneck when it comes to gaming. I could get an Athlon X2 black edition 2.9GHZ for a bit cheaper and that's sure to work. Would that be a smarter choice?

Get the 6000+ Windsor if you can. It is equal to the athlon 250. Of course you will need to pick up a heat sink for it but hey it is worth it.
