I have an eMachine ET1810-01 with a 1.6 celeron 420 processor. which I would like to switch for a Pentium E6300. would the Pentium E6300 be compatible with the existing motherboard?

not a chance, thats a pretty old processor the socket will be different. the e6300 utilizes the LGA 775.

you'd be looking at a new motherboard along with the proc, but given that its an emachine, i'd just go for a new build all together

Thanks for the info. I have successfully upgraded to e5400 without any problem. It is dualcore 2.7ghz processor. I will upgrade the box to Windows 7 x64 next.
