hi, thanks for the reply.

but i think it is only for fujitsu branded toshiba hdds. my purpose is to check the fitness of the toshiba hdd comes along with dell inspiron laptops.

You can try a third party utility such as HD Sentinel or HDDScan.

HD Sentinel (DOS / Windows / Linux):

You could also use MHDD in DOS mode. MHDD's surface scan will identify "slow" sectors, ie those that require several retries.
