My External hard drive has a brokrn connector on the back.The Westrn Digital 2tb My Book is fragile.I read some complaints about it.My question is>>Can I crack the External drive open and install it use the drive inside as a d.) Drive to put files on.

I think you can.
I would be surprised if WD did not use standard sata drives in it's external enclosures.

If this is for a backup, consider just replacing the enclosure.

I took the casing off and inside,is just a standard drive...hooked it up,and it works great.The usb connector was a flimsy thing.I read a bunch of complaints on the WD MY BOOK drive 2.0tb 3.0..They had the connector snap off.
