After i have finished transferring data from my FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 1 TB and "Safely remove hard-drive" from windows , i proceed to remove the usb and external power supply. However when i switch the external power supply , i hear this "click" sound , its not very loud but you can hear it when i have my head near the hard drive. This always happens when i pull the power out from my external hard drive , but it works just fine.

my query is what is causing this "click" sound. Apart from this there is no other problems or clicking sounds. I was told this sound is caused by the "landing zone" ? Can anyone help me on what that exactly is and is that what is causing that "click" sound.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

That is the sound oh the head parking. All hard disks make this sound. If you listen carefully you will hear a similar sound when you shut off the computer. Nothing to worry about.

Random 'clicking' sounds from a hard disk is an early warning signal of impending failure.
