More about versus versus core quad
  1. Go with the i5 for general usage. It will be plenty fast. Use an evga (lifetime warranty on some models when registered online) or powercolor 4770 or 5770 video card for gaming, and a 500w power supply with at least 18 amps on the 12v rail. Antec, pc power and cooling, corsair, seasonic, enermax, and ocz are all good brands.
  2. The i5 you have listed is the i5 650, a horribly overpriced dualcore and is only better than the E8500, another dualcore. You want a quadcore nowadays, not dualcore.

If you can get your hands on an i5 750 then it will be the fastest out of the ones ou listed, but you may be able to get an Athlon II X4 620 for even cheaper which will perform quite well. Also id you refuse to overclock and plan on gaming the Phenom II X4 955 or 965 and the i5 750 are you best bet because of the Phenom's high clocks and the i5 750's Turbo mode.
  3. dont plan to overclock, can afford the amd 955 though is that as good as the i5? i have a 500 watt ezcool psu at the moment powers a core 2 duo and geforce 7950 will that be ok for either system.
