CPU Frequency question.

I haven't built a custom machine in a while. I just put together an i7 860 on a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3 motherboard. Is it normal for the CPU's base frequency to be slightly different every time I start it up? It's always between 134.XX and 136.XX mhz.

Itr's called Speed Step technology which cuts CPU power when not needed.....throw a load on like Prime95 and you'll see it sit still.

I understand speedstep/turbo boost. I was talking about the base frequency, not the multiplier. I guess this is normal. Thanks.

Nominal is 133.0. I think your motherboard may be giving you a little boost. It is unusual to vary at all, but it does not seem to be something you should worry about.
