How to reduce noise on 1 terrabyte hard disc

Hello,I have a 1 terrabyte seagate hard disc and it is making a strange noise. Is that normal?

  1. If it's making a noise that it's never made before, then it could be a problem. I'd use a utility that can report SMART errors (such as DiskCheckup) to check for problems.

    It's normal for hard drives to make "clicking" or "chirping" sounds while they're in use - that's the sound of the heads moving back and forth to access data on different tracks. But most hard drives are pretty silent when they're not doing anything.
