This is my first time building a computer, and I'm a little lost in a some of the stuff.

I have decided to get an i5 (750) processor instead of an Intel 2, basically its only $50 more.

I know this isn't the CPU section, but I figured I'd ask this while im asking the question about my mobo. Should I get a i5 750 or one of the 600 series? I'm basically building a computer because my mom told me what I have left (instead of buying a $1500 mac) I can use to spend on my car. I'm not into incredible gaming or anything, but I like music and movies a lot, and overall get pissed at slow computers.

Basically I'm really lost on the motherboard. I'd like to find something Sub $150. Anyways other than that I don't know much.

Heres the parts I have so far.

Intel i5 750 - $200

XFX Radeon HD 5670 - $120 (Would someone please explain to me how an ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5670 can have different brands?)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150467

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB - $55

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181

Antec Three Hundred Illusion Case - $60

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066&Tpk=antec%20300%20illusion

So, I'd like to build something for around $800, all the above costs $435 so $365 left. I'm not really sure if $800 is possible since I decided to go for a i5. I'd rather pay $1000 and have all mid-tier parts than pay $800 with a really nice CPU, graphics card, ect and a crappy mobo and ram ect...

I prefer Gigabyte motherboards, but the P55 Asus motherboards are pretty good.

This looks at $200 - $250 motherboards:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/enthusiast-p55-motherboard,2494.html

Less expensive boards usually have a few less features. In the case of Gigabyte, eVGA, and Asus, they generally have the same build quality.

You still need a PSU. I recommend one of these:
Corsair 550VX (41 amp 12 volt rail)

With your video card, you can afford to economize a little, but I wouldn't go lower than this:
Antec 500 watt BASIQ
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371004

Test report:
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/792

Brands of video cards:
ATI makes the chipset. The other companies make the video card. For ATI, XFX is one of the better brands.

If you don't need to run CF/SLI or use a lot of expansion cards, consider the Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 for $105 shipped.

You might consider these G.Skill 2x2GB 1333 CL8's for $109 shipped.

I would not recommend getting a non-name PSU just to save a few bucks. If you want to cut a little off the price of the PSU, you could consider the Corsair 450VX for $55 (after rebate) + $5 shipping.

The specs for your card state "400 Watt or greater power supply recommended (500 Watt for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)". http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-5000/ati-radeon-hd-5670-overview/Pages/ati-radeon-hd-5670-system-requirements.aspx

Here's a review of the Corsair 450VX: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/540
One teaser quote "After opening this power supply we found out that internally it is identical to Antec Earthwatts 500 W, but using better electrolytic capacitors."

K, that $105 motherboard looks good, I'd still like some other opinions tho.

Any thoughts on this Evga? All the reviews on newegg look great, I found this on some "top hardware" website.

Any objections? I think all I need is a motherboard and a DVD/CD drive?
