Just found out that ATI has officially said it wont support DX9 GPU's under W7. So that meams that any benefits(DX11 runtime) that would/could filter through to the cards are now null and void as the benefits would only be there under an approved WDM driver ?
Is this thinking correct ?

As I understand it, only DX9 ONLY cards are getting dropped. IE: everything from the 2000 series on should remain fully supported. Otherwise, yes, you're thinking is correct.
