I have it networked to a Dell P4 Optiplex functioning as a server, which has only 2 SATA slots. Currently the server has an 80GB and 1TB WD Green. The desktop is running a 750GB WD Green. I'm going to do some upgrades soon. I want an SSD for the desktop, and more storage for the server. I can swap my Phenom II 720 and MB into the server to give more sata availability, but I was thinking maybe mirroring the Server's storage. Here are my needs: SSD for the gaming machine, and more storage, perhaps some added reliability without the hassles of RAID in the server. I'll need to keep at least a 750GB HDD for the Gaming machine, and I'd like about 3TB for the server.
What follows is an unordered list that was basically made as a brainstorm for private use. It will give you some insight into what I was thinking though.
-storage-2x1.5tb, ($220 with s+h) (Samsung spinpoint f2) Or 3x1tb (+current WD10EADS for 3TB(??) RAID 10 ($255, with s+h)
-storage >60gb ssd (ocz vertex turbo $240 intel x-25 $240) (OCZ Summit 120GB - $335 Vertex 120GB $399)
-move mb and cpu to server
-buy mb n cpu for desktop
(core i5 750 + Gigabyte p55 + 6GB DDR3) $500
I'd spend about $1000 but I'd prefer to avoid the MB+CPU combo which drastically increases price.
