My audio output jack from the case is not working, and I suspect that I've put the wrong cable (attaching the audio output on the MOBO); instead of AC97, I've put the HD sound or whatever...
They both had the same pins and were on the same cable, but will this be it?
Get out your motherboard manual. See if its HD or AC97. Find the appropriate cable that runs from the case jacks (they will probably have little flag labels) and plug one of them in. If you plugged in the wrong one then yes, that would be the problem.
They are both for the audio. The HD audio is only for mobo's that support it. It doesn't look like that board supports the HD audio. Unplug it and plug in the AC97.
The thing is, the AC97 connector (from the case) is conected to the M/B FP audio port.
And under device manager, the FP audio port is not recognised...
It won't show up with that name. It's included with your onboard audio devices. Is there anything in the device manager that has a conflict (yellow !) next to it?
Double check the volume control to make sure it's not muted.

Nope, absolutely no yellow signs in device manager...
