Black Permanent Marker + Graphics Card = Bad?

I'm looking at some of the GTX cards that I may want to get, but they all seem to have a giant red backbone that goes along the top of the card. This is a huge offset from my color scheme, so can I just take a permanent marker to that part of the graphics card, or is that a no no?
There are a few alternative card designs from other manufacturers, but I am not sure of their quality.
