So my son (9 yo) wants a new PC. His old one died. It was my old Opteron 152/Gigabyte K8N system. Anyway, I am reusing the case, fans, optical and floppy drive. I Bought a Foxconn C51XEM2AA AM2 motherboard, x2 6000+ CPU and 4GB of Corsair DDR2-800 for $100 from a buddy. I already have a Zalman 9700NT heatsink he can use and a Corsair 550vx PSU I bought and never put to use. I will have to buy a Hard Drive and Video card.
A co-worker has 2 9600GT's he just pulled out of his s775 system to part out and sell. He's building a new 1366/i7 system.........
I know this sounds like overkill for a kid but $80 for the pair is cheaper than buying 1 card. Will the 6000+ be enough for 2 9600GT's in SLI? He has my old 21" ASUS VH222H which runs at 1920 x 1080 res.
This just feels hard to pass up. I could have him up & running for $250.00.........plus an OS which I forgot about 'till now :(

What would you do? Any other ideas?

Sunbeam Tech CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 Thermal Paste,
4x1GB OCZ Platinum DFI Special PC2-6400,
Seems good to me...Just see all the parts you get are in good condition.

That Proccy will be good enough for those cards.

I'd go for it. Your son will have a pretty nice system that'll last him for a long time. Do it. DO IT. :D

You can't beat the price, if it was my kid I would love to be able to say I set my 9year old up with an SLI rig, hah.

Yeah, your kid doesn't know if he got a great machine on his hand... :)
Go for it...

^ Those 9 year olds know more than you think. haha.

But that seems like a pretty decent deal. They will run pretty well together.

Thanks to all of you. I just bought the cards and he threw in a 250GB Seagate 7200.10 SATA hard Drive he never used! He has been using the cards for about 6 months. He bought them on clearance after his 8800GTX died. They are Palit Super 9600GT 1GB dual slot cards with rear cooling vents. Pretty nice looking and it became a great deal really. I have $180 out of my pocket right now and nearly a system with all the parts I had and am reusing. I am happy about that. A copy of Windows 7 and he'll be set, for a while anyway.

Thanks again to you all for the advice!!

i personaly think the cpu will bottleneck the gpu's but he will not know any better and it will still delivar great performance

heck im still running on a athlon 64 3500+ with a geforce 9800 GTX+ i know my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu but im getting great performance none the less

CPU bottleneck depends on the game you play.

There will be no bottleneck if you'll be playing Burnout Paradise on max...
But the CPU may bottleneck while playing a Buggy game like GTA4.

But you can OC anyway.

Just to update: I installed COD4, Oblivion and Far Cry 2 last night. I played a little of all 3 games and with task manager running, never used over 50% CPU power on any of them. I know Crysis and GTA4 will bottleneck this setup but won't buy either of those games anyway. He does however want Need for Speed : Shift, not sure how that will play. All in all, this setup works pretty well together. I also like the total price!

You can try Crysis.
It will be GPU bottleneck in your case,Not CPU bottlenecked...
