I have a Polaroid FML-373b tv, and a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop i'm trying to connect with a hdmi cable. I have it set on 1280x600 32bit at 720p. I want 1980x1980, but when I change it the screen is way to large. I'm almost positive they can do this, i'm not sure though. I just want to use my tv as a monitor, but I can't get it to look right. The laptop has the Intel 965 mobile chipset, 2 gigs of memory, vista and a hdmi output. I contacted dell and they said it should work, but the consultant would have to transfer me to another rep and they wanted to charge me 65 to talk to him. I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT PLEASE HELP!!!!

What you want and what you can get out your Polaroid FLM-373b TV are two different things. It's maximum (and native resolution is 1366x768. That's going to get you HD @ 720P
Why do you think 1280x600 is 720p? The 600 should be a clue.

Set you laptop video to 1366x768.

well the tv says it's 1080i, sry i'm new to the hd stuff. my laptop don't have that one setting. everything else, but just not that one. When i change it to anything else but 1280x600 it distorts bad. I just want to make sure I have the best picture quality I can get.

Does it say 1080i compatible? That means that it can take a 1080 input and display on the TV (usually as 720). It's not the same thing as being a true 1080 TV.

Your TV has a native resolution of 1366x768 and it can't go higher.

You'd need a 1920x1080 (or higher) to get true 1080HD.
Compare the specs:
Polaroid 37" Widescreen LCD HDTV w/ Digital Tuner, FLM-373B
Vizio 37" Class Eco 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV, VO370M

What does your TV manual recommend for a PC display resolution?
Try a resolution of 640x480 on your laptop.

it says it's 1080i, but dell says it's an advanced configureation on my pc, and wanted to charge 75 for the online repair... The rep said it should work fine.

I don't have the manuel, so I have been lookin at it on the net. It was a free tv that i got and i repaced the capacitor on and it works 100% =)

so 1080i means 1980x1080? thus meaning i can't get it because the native resolution is 1368x766

Get a new computer that can output 1366x768 res video.

How did the 640x480 resolution look on the TV?
Have you been using the Aspect button looking at all 4 modes on each resolution you try?

1280x600 looks good just thought i could it to look better.
