money is not a factor.

but wattage and heat should be taken into account.

I would say an ATI 5870. Yes, the 295 GTX will beat it in some scenarios... but just look at the power consumption and noise numbers... and the cost! To me avoiding the compatibility issues that are associated with multi-GPU setups is worth going the single GPU route.

That said... I own a 5850. It's swell.
