Laptop DVD Drive appears then disappears

Forum Storage : CD/DVD Writers Laptop DVD Drive appears then disappears

Hello, I have had this problem since I loaded Windows 7 I think but Can't be sure.

I insert a disc and the drive appears for about 30 seconds and I can play DVD's/Start installations or whatever I want to do, but then after about 30 seconds the drive disappears.

I have tried the Microsoft 'Fix It' solution, the windows troubleshooter and deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry but to no avail.

Any help is much appreciated.

I did search but could only find solutions involving switching SATA cables or running the Drives on IDE cables but obviously in a laptop this is impossible.

Clean the optical drive (can of compressed air/DVD cleaning disk). If that doesn't solve your problem, you may just need to replace the optical drive itself. They do fail. Changing out is generall pretty easy and not too expensive. Good luck!
