Windows 7 not recognising correct ram

i have installed two 1gb sticks of ram but windows only recognises 1gb, what am i doing from, i have updated the bios and this did not resolve the issue

1. Have you tried swapping the positions of the RAM?
2. What about using just one at a time?
3. Are you sure you installed the RAM in the correct configuration (according to manual)?
4. Last and least favorite, have you run memtest?

5. Run: msconfig - then go to the Boot tab, click the Advanved Options button, make sure that "Maximum memory" is not checked.
