You should. That board has some of the worst reviews I have ever seen on newegg though. Hopefully you have a decent one.

Asrock 970 Extreme4 is a cheap and a very good mobo. Some people have problem with audio on it, but i've been using it for a month now and no problems so far.

I suspect it's as good as any 970-chipset motherboard, but for whatever reason there is now an MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ available.

With a C2 stepping, to 3.8-3.9GHz.

A C3 stepping should go 4GHz+ easily with good air or water cooling.

Every chip is different, but a C3 stepping should do it at 10% less voltage than a C2.

What you will find is the AMD 'volt wall' -- additional voltage will allow little in clock speed but simply drive temps higher.

Here are your operating specs . . .

Some folks go quite higher -- that's up to you, your motherboard and your level of cooling.

I have found that the AMD 965 BE C3 requires gobs of voltage above 3.8 GHz..I have to get the voltage to 1.49v - 1.54v from 3.9 GHz - 4.3 GHz...I am using an 890 chipset so your results will vary as far as keeping the chip stable...DANGER: MAKE SURE TO KEEP THE HEAT IN CHECK !!!! This is just my experiences with that chip...I do not use lower chipsets to OC as it just causes stability issues.

I suspect in a perfect world 4.0 Ghz would be feasible with that board.

Umm maybe I am losing it but carlo have you even said exactly what CPU you you will be overclocking? It could be anything from an Athlon II 245 to an FX-8150 and that's what makes all the difference as to what clock speed you might achieve.

EDIT: Oh it's in the title lol. Ignore me.
