I was wondering if now would be an ok time to upgrade a system i built a couple years ago or if i should wait?

The specs on it are
8800gts (512)
e6750
4g ddr2 1000
gigabyte p35-ds3r
Corsair 550VX psu
24in monitor 1920x1200

i think thats the important info if not just tell me and ill add to it
my budget would be about 800$ for the upgrade

If you feel the PC is slow, then go ahead and upgrade...As far as I can see, your PC specs dont look bad...

If you can, I would suggest you wait till Jan...though Intel has already launched newer CPUs, there are more to come during Jan and the P55 chipset is still new...So by Jan, those chipset drivers would become better...

And anyways you can even expect Nvidia to launch newer cards by then...So that would force ATI to reduce their DirectX 11 card prices...And also there is lot of time for DirectX 11 to become mainstream...When new DirectX 11 games start to roll out, that would be a better time...

But if you still want to go ahead and upgrade then its your choice...

Your processor is just fine for what you do. I would upgrade the video card, then upgrade the system in a year or so.
