Windows wont detect all my ram

Hi, I recently bought a computer from dell... It has 8gig of ram DDR3
when i look in the bios that information is correct
but once I enter windows and check my ram total on there it only detect 3gig...

when i called dell of course they said my warrenty didnt cover that because it was a software issue...

anyone have a clue of whats the problem and how to fix it?

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Is your OS win 7 32 bits?, if the answer is yes, the 32 bits OS only can use 3GB of RAM.

oh ok theres the answer... but the smart ass Dell didnt send me CD of 64bit... lol so all i need to do is call them to send me a copy of my windows?

Yeah, u can call and maybe they send to u a CD of the x64 OS.

Or u can download a x64 edition of the same that the 32 bit version that u have installed, and install the x64 bit with the key that u currently have.

Here I can'y give to you the direct link. But you can look for the same version on google and download it using a torrent program.
