Looking for the most for the least. $150.00 range.
I have a pretty good case. Brand new 1gig wd hard drive and good 300 watt power supply. i want to get by as cheap as possible, untill I get some extra money and build what I really need.
My wife does a lot of graphics as an artist. and childrens book illustrator. I refuse to buy Mac. there is a Combo package at Tigerdirect.com for 139.00

Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard w/ AMD Athlon II 245 CPU w/Fan Bundle

plus i get 20.00 more off if i sign for credit card. If you all think of anything that would be more for the money I would love your advice.

Should i be looking for ddr3.

The best combo they have is with the regor 240 with biostar TA790GX for $133.98. Add some PNY 2x2gb of pc6400 ddr2 for $79.99 after $10 rebate. Total shipped before rebate around $223.97. both have free shipping. Start by finding the regor 240 retail boxed under desktop processors. Then on the regor 240 page select "combo deals". Then go to the memory section for the pny memory. Or you can get the same board with propus 620 quad core in a combo package for an extra $30.

I know that I'm not you financial adviser, but for the love of god, don't sign legal documents for the sake of $20; they WANT you to do that for a reason.

Agreed with 01die: go to newegg and browse around, read reviews, check the specs, etc.

I have intel celeron 2.93ghz w/ p4 915gl board. before
i add drr memory to it. Should i just start over with new ddr2 capable? There are some good deals on cpu motherboard combos

I just bought wd 1t HD and have 1 Meg DDR ram no video card.

Well, computer makers are forecasting an increase in the cost of computer components for the foreseeable future, so it may be a good time to buy new now instead of compromising and re-using older technology (such as that DDR ram) to build a cheaper system. However, if you don't have a valid operating system to install on your next computer, you might have to wait and save up more money to get a valid copy of Vista/7.
