Charter internet help

Ok so charter just spent a hour of my time to tell me theres nothing they can do. We have a cable modem and a wireless/wired router and im wondering if we can move it from the corner of our house more toward the center (closes to where we are most commonly using our laptops and my ps3), The router has two antennas on the back so can i just point those in the direction of the laptops? also at time we randomly loose our connection and charter wont help would changing our cable modem or router to a more powerful one help? Thanks.
