Greetings,

I have not done a build for several years and need some input for a home pc that will not be used for heavy duty gaming. I want a mid-power cpu + good motherboard combo (Intel or AMD -I have generally gone with AMD), mid level video (I will not be trying to max out frame rates), mid-tower case, power supply (partial tp pc power & cooling), memory (DDR2 or DDR3 for Windows 7 and Linux - I like to use Crucial), new keyboard & mouse, hard drive(s) and DVD drive.
I think I will keep using my current Samsung monitor, 19" seems fine for now.

My last system used an ANTEC Lanboy, and other mid range items - its just time for an update. I do some engineering (pspice) and data analysis (my 401K), but generally surfing and emails plus at tax time a tax programme.

Not very exciting, but then again, I am thinking about retirement and managing the $$$.

FYI-I do use Newegg plus local shops for my parts.

I await the wisdom of the universe. Please no HP recommendations, I want to do my own-THANKS

Dave

The main thing we are missing is a budget, but it would be helpful if you filled out the form in my sig. Don't worry, you won't get any HP recommendations here ;)

Sorry about that....

I would like the computer to cost $650-$750 less operating system since I am not sure if it will be LINUX or Windows 7.

Thanks...
Dave
