So this brings me up on the two questions I would like to ask...
1) Is this an improvement from the GTX 260? If so, is it worth spending another £140?
2) I currently have a P5N-D motherboard, says its designed for SLI, but would a ATI graphics card (not using crossfire) work ok or can it just accept Nvidia cards?
What your question boils down to is this. Is it worth spending £140 to get DX11 because thats about it the two cards perform very much alike depending on game and resolution. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_5770/10.html
You can run a single ATI card in a SLI Motherboard no probs but obviously its a single card only deal.
There may well be driver updates that improve the 5770 to a point where the upgrade is definatly worth it but for me personally i wouldnt be looking to upgrade anytime soon. If there was a new killer DX11 Game title released then i may consider it but as it stands i dont see it being even close to worth it. Just my opinion though.

Just one other thought though, if you can get a sale on the 260 then obviously that makes the whole deal a lot sweeter, but i wouldnt pay out £140 just to upgrade and sit the 260 in a box.
So, ur telling me its a waste of money and the performance diff aint worth the price?
the 5770 is almost the same as a 4870, and a 4870 is almost the same as a gtx 260. penformance difference is almost none, so it's no worth to upgrade to that.
either a 5870 or a 5850 is a major upgrade from a 260, both of them penform infinitely better than a 260, and has dx11 support, but by now they're both unavailable cause of the massive sells they had when they got launched.
is just better to wait and hopefully they'll be avaible on december, and be sure you get yours before christmas when they get sold out again.
if you're too hurry for an upgrade then you could get another 260 and put them in sli, then in Q2 next year upgrade to a dx11 card when both nvidia and ati have launched their new cards and availability gets better.
and it DOES matter if it has dx11 support, there's a wide list of games coming out december and early next year that will have dx11 support. have you seen this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR40GwRtFyw
