Yes an AM2+ Processor will run in an AM2 board.

Unfortunately Abit doesn't seem to care about updating their bios or even website

http://www.abit.com.tw/cpu-support-list/mb/nv_nforce570...

Doesn't look like it... wich is unfortunate as the same chipset on Asus motherboards go up to Phenom9950 and some have ran phenom2's (unsupported tho)

I guess I should have looked up the board itself, but in general AM2+ and AM2 are compatible.

That's because the motherboard division of Abit ceased trading some time ago. :(

Quite a shame, They used to make great motherboards... well... last abit I had was with the Pentium2 Cpu's

I ran a Phenom9950 on an AM2 motherboard then swapped my mobo for an AM3... didn't really see much gain in performance... just gain in support options such as unlocked multiplier.

Your best bet is to find an AthlonX2 6000... They outperform the Athlon7XXX series as they were bad original phenoms to my knowledge.

I'm still using two of theirs and still love the way that the 680i one flies in the face of the Nvidia chipset haters. :)
