Is the HD5770 good for playing games at 1440*900 or should I get a more powerful card?

The HD5770 is slightly less powerful than the HD4870 1Gb and matches the GTX260, it is, if anything a little 'too much' for your resolution but with DX11 and lower power consumption I would recommend it highly (I have one;) ).

It will play all the games with Max or very-high settings on that resolution.

Yep i would say its just about perfect, maybe a bit much but that means it has legs.
