Ok I've had some crappy luck this past summer with computer gear so looking to do a massive clean out and rebuild of my network/computing gear. I am planning on reusing 2 of the 3 cases I have sitting here (1 Micro, 2 full size) and DVD/CD drives. I have no real affinity towards brand or buying spot. The constraints are I need to build 2 machines (HTPC and Gaming), 1 OS Windows 7 Home for my laptop (Currently have a valid license for Server 2008 and Windows 7 Pro) and Gigabit switch for $2k or less:

Media Server (want to use this to record Cable and be redundant storage for photos etc.):

BIOSTAR TA790GXE 128M AM2+/AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor Model ADX620WFGIBOX

4 GB DDR2

3 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA (in raid 5)

Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250 Dual TV Tuner / Encoder

Total: ~$600

Gaming:

GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD6 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor

CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power

4GB DDR3 1600

260GTX Video

2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA (in raid 1)

1 x Kennsington 40gig SSD for the OS

Total: ~$1100

XPS M1330 | T8300 | Dell 0U8042 | 2GB DDR2 800MHz | NVIDIA 8400M GS | WD2500BEVS-75US | 1280 x 800

I will do up the gaming one here:
CPU+RAM Combo: i-7 860 + G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)DDR3 1333 Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.286391

Motherboard: You don't need the UD6, and that board does not have USB, SATA 3.0 support. This one is cheaper, still Gigabyte and almost as good as the UD6 performance wise.
GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -P55A-UD4p

Hard Disk: If I were you avoid the Seagate, take this Samsung instead. Samnsung one is also faster:
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822152181

Graphic Card: HD 5850
Probably around $ 299 but hard to find a available model.

PSU: Corsair 750TX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139006

Total: $784.94 w/o the HD 5850 and SSD. THAT specific SSD is around 110-135 $
Total: $ 1084.93 + 135 (SSD) = 1219.93
