I'm thinking that instead of installing Windows XP on my new pc that i'm going to build, I should run Windows 7 Professional. I would just like to hear your opinion if i should or if i shouldn't on these final specs.
ASUS M2N68-AM MOTHERBOARD
2GB DDR2 Ram 800MHZ
AMD ATHLON II
SEAGATE 250GB SATAII
ATI HD4550 PCI-E 512MB DDR3
(I know that 2GB of ram is not that much these days but it is upgradable so i will look at that in the near future)
What do you think? Should i stick with XP or go with Windows 7?
I'd recommend changing all of your parts out for some more modern ones. See the build advice link in my sig - if you fill it out we'll be able to help you out more easily.
No problem, $500 is not an unreasonably low budget - you can certainly get a better PC then the one above with lots of upgrade potential as well.
I would guess so, But i live in Australia and the parts are quite limited that i can order. The motherboard that i listed is probably not a definite answer ill probably go with something else with a AMD2 socket. I don't really want to order parts from overseas due to postage etc etc but if you could show me some links that don't ask much for postage to Aus it would be greatly appreciated.
Use the link in the sig and edit your post. You can include the domestic websites you do want to use and we'll still try to find the best bang and upgradeable system for your budget.
Okay, Ive done an update and I'm thinking of buying through an Australian PC store and since my brother lives right next to it ill buy them through him.
Western Digital 160GB SATAII 7200 rpm HDD
Asus M4N72-E AM2+
Asus EAH4650 1G DDR2 PCIE2.0 DVI HDTV
AMD ATHLON II X2 245 2.9Ghz AM3
G.Skill DDR2 4G(2x2G) PC8800 1100MHZ
I know the hard drives quite small, But I'm going to be using two other drives along with it so i don't need much space. What do you think of these parts?
The main info we need from the link in our sigs (if its important enough for the regulars around here to put it in there, it should be answered completely) is the usage, monitor resolution, and what you do have already. Please cut and paste the format from the link and edit ALL that info into your first post or add a new post in this thread.
As for what you have up there, the ram speed is overkill unless its cheaper than the 800 or 1066 (if you're Overclocking.)
The 4650 DDR2 is probably a bad choice. Not sure what options you have, but a DDR3 GPU is almost always a much better performer, especially with the entry level cards.
It will allow you to use onboard graphics (you can always add a discrete GPU later), that is if you aren't going to be gaming.
I'm sort of in to gaming, But this PC is something that i want to be able to support things for a couple more years to come when i can upgrade it if you know what i mean.
I don't really like onboard graphics so im going with that graphics card that i listed, It seems great and its at a reasonable price.
