hi...i want to know the about performance difference between PHENOM II X2 550 and PHENOM II X3 710..can anyone comment about this two processor coz the price of the processor in my place is abuot the same..thanks..

It depends. If the program can run on 3 or 4 core, then it will be faster. If it can only use 1 or 2 core, then the x2 will be faster.

your better off going for the x3 cuz you can just oc the x3

and the x3 is more future proof, in the next few years all programs are going to become multi threaded the x3 will help here

Why dont any1 mentioning bout core unlocking its a burning topic and lots of success rates (4m posts)
if both can be unlocked(if luck favers) den i think 550be will be beter with 3.1ghz (be4 oc)

unlocking the 4th core is luck of the draw and most of x3s with the 4th core unlocked is very unstable if u really want stability and performance get the x4

I apreciate that but some do unlock the 4th core in 550be and again oc them as looking at the price range i will choose a x2 550be not x4 price bit high 4 me

4million posts?!!? where did you get that?!

if you don't know core unlocking usually results in unstable processors if you do get a good one then your power consumption is going to go up a lot

or you get a perfectly fine one but that doesn't always happen.

How about we ourself disable a core in x3 and overclock it(if posible)
as amd did.
It shud b more stable and a good clock f.

I would not get either one of those chips. I would go with the anthlon x4 620 for 99 bucks.

and yes if the app is multi threaded then the x3 will win

you should go with the x3 if you want to be more future

however, as someguy7, said you can also go with the Athlon II x4

it will do slightly better than the x3 in some apps but if you want gaming then the x3 is best
