I just got a new 23" 1920x1080 LG Monitor and it has a HDMI port along with DVI and my current Graphics card is a ATI HD4850 with just DVI connections. Would it be better to use a DVI to HDMI adapter to my monitor rather than using just DVI?

Does your LG monitor have speakers?
If not I'd just use the DVI-DVI setup.

DVI and HDMI carry video signal in the same way, they are electrically compatible which is why those adapter cables work. HDMI gives you the option of carrying sound as well, but for image quality both will be the same.

I agree. They both give the same visual detail, so the only question is if the monitor has speaker on it. If it does then hdmi will be good for reducing the amount of cord clutter as video and audio will be on the same cord.

If it doesn't have speakers then just use DVI.
