I am trying to upgrade from Vista 32 Bit to Win 7 64 Bit. I know i need to do a fresh install by booting from the DVD and selecting custom install. However when i do this i get the black screen and white progress bar loading installation files and that completes ok. Next up i get a blue background image appear and I should also get some dialogue boxes appear along with more files to load. However it just sits there with the background image the only thing displaying.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this? Google didn't turn up anything likely. :(

Cheers

download the Ultimate Boot CD and in the hard drive tools select wipe, and do a wipe on the drive, this removes all data for a clean install, you cannot do a 64 bit upgrade to a 32 bit system

How long did you wait? There are times during the installation where it appears that nothing is happening for a few minutes at a time.
