So i went ahead and bought an XFX 4890 from Best Buy to go with my HIS 4890. So far i am really liking the performance increase that it is giving me. As other stated before, there was a little issue with the heat sitting between the 2 cards, enough heat to actually turn the plastic on my HIS card white about the size of a penny. So i took a 120mm fan hooked it up and i have it blowing right in between the 2 cards. Seems to be keepin it a little cooler. Here is a pic of the setup: (my phone takes crap pictures) http://s562.photobucket.com/albums [...] =xfire.jpg

I'm quite sorry, I can't see the said 120mm fan.
Also if you have a big case and 6 slots you can use the farther slots to give a 2 slot space between the cards.

Who cares if its from best buy.... its a 4890 none the less.

sabot: I only have 2 pci-e slots and i took this picture before i put the fan in.

a couple questions:

1. As i was looking at the XFX card through gpu-z i noticed that it said the default clocks for it were Core: 750 RAM: 850

Isnt that basically a 4870? I thought 4890s defaults were 850 and 975

EDIT I just tried Restore to factor defaults in CCC and it put them to 850 and 975. so it must be something with GPU Z. EDIT

2. After playing borderlands for a while, the card that was getting hot, maxed out at 62C Is that ok for a video card?

BESTBUY? r u serious? i was in that store a few weeks ago, and they were selling a 9600gt for like $150...

Whats the problem with buying a 4890 from Best Buy? i could see if i paid 250 or 300 for it. but i paid 200. it is 10 more than ones on new egg but without the shipping cost. Plus if something happens to it or i decide the performance gain isnt worth it, i have 30 days to return it without worrying about shipping it back and what not.

The price seems fair, not really worth talking about that people...

They actually have competative pricing at BestBuy? I'm shocked!

O_o

I've seen Bestbuy try to sell a pos 8600GTs for $80

62 celcius is fine for a HD 4890. It's a bit above average at idle, but if you're saying it's around that at load it's great.

Yeah it was around that at load playing Borderlands. And it was at 72c under load playing Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising,

$200? Not a bad deal at all, maybe I should give best buy another look.

That's fine. Mine is about 74ish under load by itself. You don't have anything to worry about. ;)
