My Seagate Goflex Home 2TB has failed in less than a year. I am considering the purchae of a QNAP TS-419P+ NAS equipped with either Seagate or Hitachi 2TB drives but am concerned about the reliability of Seagate HDD's since the failure of my back up device. Does anyone have any similar experiences with Seagate drives?

It is heat that kills hard drives, ensure that you have good air flow over the hard drive. I have found that no one brand is any more reliable than any other with the exception of certain models.
