Difficulty upgrading to SP2

Hi Team

I tried to upgrade an old PC with an SP2 disc downloaded from Microsoft. The upgrade was not accepted and the reason was that, possibly, the key was not correct. As far as I am aware, the XP installation is genuine, but I did not receive an XP disc with it when the machine was new.

Please advise

If you purchased the computer retail, it should have a sticker on the PC or a sticker attached to one of the manuals. If you just purchased the OS, the activation key should be with the disk.

If you didn't get manuals, an install CD/DVD, or OEM restore partition or an activation code, then this copy of windows was sold to you illegally or at least in violation of microsoft's terms. You should always have the tools needed to perform a reinstall if needed, including activation, when purchasing a computer.
