Windows xp on external hard drive

hi
i`m running windows 7 but want to install windows xp on my external hard drive, to use as a portable windows. i tried booting from disk and installing but after copying file it gives me a blue screen error. the second thing i tried was openning "run" and putting in the following comman: "E:\\I386\\winnt32.exe /syspart: /tempdrive: /makelocalsource /noreboot\"
this basically tell it to install windows onto drive F from cd-rom BUT this didn`t work it gave me a message saying the operating system on this computer is not authorized as the it has a later operating system......plzzz help

Do you have Win 7 Professional? If so, you can install Virtual computer "XP Mode" without any problems.
