What happens when you replace the hardrive on a macbook pro?

I would like to replace my late 2010/early 2011 Macbook Pro's HDD with a SSD. I was just wondering what happens when you replace the harddrive? Does the Mac OS system disk have to be put back in and then re-install it? If I have a copy of Windows 7 and want to use that can I make it a full PC?

Side note: Any suggestions on a SSD?

yes you need to reload your os, you can use windows if you prefer. as for the ssd do some research. i have seen alot of dead ocz drives, i use intel and have never had an issue.
