Hey guys, when working on a computer, if I take my motherboard outside the case, and put it on a desk.....

Then If I use the anti-static strap and connect myself to my case, even though the motherboard is outside the case, am I still protected from ESD (electro static discharge) even when installing the CPU on my mobo or ram or whatever????

Probably; depends on your esd connection. I worked at dell, and they use the foot straps now. They may still use an alarm at some build stations that goes off when the connection is broken.
