Wd 1tb black takes FOREVER to format ??

Just bought a Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black from newegg.... first time i buy a "black" disk so i expected it to have great performance....

So yesterday at 22H i started to format my drive.... Today it is 19H and it's only 52% and it has been stuck at 52% for over 2 hours !!!!!! what the hell !!! I own four 2TB WD Green drives and it never took so long to format

So is it an indicator that the drive is faulty and i should RMA it ?? Is it normal it is taking so long ?? Usually when i format my 2TB hd it takes less time...

I also tryed restarting the format process but it didnt help

I normally no longer to bother with a full format on new drives because of the very long format times on these large drives.

However, the progress bar should NOT stop for a long time at one location; that may mean a bad drive.

i posted this message 1 hour ago and it's STILL stuck at 52% ... it's stuck there since at least 3 hours... and the format have been running since 22hours

should i cancel it and try a quick format ?

No, you should RMA it and get a new one.

WOW it just went to 53% finally

i'll let it finish the format before i RMA it.... Once the drive is formatted, how can i test it to know if there is problems or not ? is there some kind of program that can detect if the drive is bad ?
i'm on windows XP

it finally continued to format, went good for an hour or two, and now it is stuck at 61% since 3 hours....

so i'm formatting since almost 30 hours and i'm only at 61% wow
