Allie,
This is most likely caused by incorrect Userinit value (duplicated). On a
test system, after installing SP2, the userinit value was duplicated
(appending to the existing data)
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Look in the right pane for a value called Userinit. Its value should read:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
Including the trailing comma. If it reads anything else, double click
the Userinit value and change it. This assumes that XP is installed on
C:\Windows. If not, adjust the command line accordingly.
</quote>
If that does not help, see what startup applications are running. Get the
Autoruns utility (as they call "superset of MSConfig" ) from
www.sysinternals.com and inspect the startup programs.

Since installing the new service pack 2, when I start-up
my documents opens automatically for all users. How do I
stop this? Anyone have the answer?

I've been working on this for a couple of weeks, to no
avail. One suggestion posted on this site (see 25August
post)is the download from
www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_mydocsopens.htm. When
the "script" warning appears, the responder advises to
just accept. Not knowing the true risk of this, I still
haven't fixed the problem. "My Documents" continues to
open. Perhaps we'll get an answer from your post.

Gail,
First, the fix from Doug's site can be trusted fully. If applying the fix
has not solved the problem, try the manual instructions which I stated
earlier and verify the userinit value. If that does not help, see what
startup applications are running. Get the Autoruns utility (as they call
"superset of MSConfig" ) from www.sysinternals.com and inspect the startup
programs. Post the log here.

Have tried the fixes, to no avail. Having difficulty
posting the log. Tried cut/paste, but no "paste" option.
Tried dragging, but messy. Ideas? Thx so much for your
help. Gail
