I currently have a Geforce 8600GT 256mb DDR3 connected to a 40" HDTV. I'm looking to upgrade and my goal is to be able to run MW2 at 1080p and to be able to play 1080p mkv videos. Currently I can only play 720p video files. I want to spend around $100.

I've been looking at the Radeon HD 4770 512MB 128-bit GDDR5 card from Newegg for $109, but I can't decide if it'd be better to go with a 1GB DDR3 for a 1920X1080 resolution or the 512MB GDDR5? Will the 4770 be able to handle MW2, or is there a better option?

Thanks in advance!

Spend a little more (125ish) and get a 4870. That will do much better at 1920x1080.

^Agreed. Or if you can, a 5770.

Or buy a xbox 360 with it... the PC version multiplayer will be a lag fest at an average 100ms of speed. (coming from the mouths of the guys at Infinity Ward)

Sincerely, if you are upgrading for this game, you are wasting your money.

A 5770 is less powerful than a 4870, I would even dare to say a 4850.

^ True that. IW made this game just a straight out console port.

DO NOT buy MW2!

Console fanboys: I could care less what you have to say about the game, I just want sound advice on a good graphics card.

A gts250/4850 should be able to play it on high settings at 1080.

I bootleg PC games from gaming companies that piss me off...ie, all of EA's games.

I only buy Bethesda games since they contain the least amount of DRM, steam-valve games when they go on sale, and mostly used games.

Get a XFX 4770, that's what I did. :)
