How to install a sata hard drive on a gigabyte mother board

Hello,
do gigabyte use a driver to install a SATA hdd into the bios before the OS is installed .

  1. No, but go into the BIOS after you add the HDD to confirm the BIOS sees it.

    As I am some what new at using the BIOS I am not shore which controller to turn on or which part of the setting to use, The HDD work on a USB cable its ok , The board is a (gigabyte,GA-k8VM800m/8237R,socket 754) K8Triton.
    Athlon 64 and it had two SATA inputs 0 and 1 ??

  5. Is this an SATA II drive? I am positive your SATA controller is SATA I.
    SATA II (300) drives will have a jumper that must be set to make them compatible with the older SATA I (150) controllers. Check that out.
